The Story Behind Two Friends . . .One MTC photos
As told by Elder Kylle Crockett's mom Lori
Dropping Kylle off at the MTC
Dec 3, 2014
Our story
actually started the day before. Tuesday we were getting the last minute
packing done. At the time we thought
that we were dropping him off at the airport to go to the Preston, England MTC.
That is what his mission call had said. We had a few questions like who has
Kylle’s visa, passport and plane tickets.
We also didn’t know for sure what time we were supposed to be at the
airport. We decided to check our email for answers. We had an email from the
Provo MTC that said they were excited to have Kylle coming tomorrow. We were
confused and decided to call the phone number on the email. Yes they confirmed
that Kylle was supposed to come to Provo. The rerouting of plans had something
to do with the holiday season travel. We were also told that he had to be there
before 1:00pm.
Wednesday
morning comes and we head to the Provo MTC. The weather was cloudy and looked
like it was going to rain. We didn’t quite know what to expect as we pulled
into the MTC. We go through the gate and turn to the right. We see about 8
missionaries standing together on the curb. Big smiles on their faces. We had
been looking for our friend Carson Mair. He is going to the Louisville Kentucky
Mission. He had been dropped off two
weeks before, and we knew he was still here somewhere. We hoped to see him.
We stopped
by the missionaries and got out of our truck. We asked the missionaries where
we could park and take some pictures across the road in front of the temple.
The missionaries said that once Kylle got there he couldn’t leave the MTC. I
wanted pictures and didn’t quite understand what they meant. I asked them a few
more questions about getting some pictures. They said that we were supposed to
take pictures before coming into the MTC area. I made a decision and said that
we are rewinding things and for my family including Kylle to get back into the
truck. I promised the missionaries that we would bring him back, but that we
were rewinding the last few minutes.
We drove out of the MTC and across the
street to the temple. We took pictures of Kylle and our family in front of the
temple. We then drove back to the MTC. We had been gone from the MTC for about
half an hour. When we pulled in they had us go to the left and there was a lot
more people and cars this time. We slowly pulled up to the curb looking at all
the missionaries waiting to help the incoming missionaries. We were so excited
when we saw Carson Mair. We rolled down the window and were hollering his name.
CARSON, CARSON. He heard us and told the other missionaries, with his arms out
to his sides, “I got this one”. We greeted Carson. He told us that he loves it
here and that he is very happy. That helped to make us feel better. We took a
few more pictures of Kylle and Carson. Then Carson took a family picture for
us. It was now time to say our good byes. We gave hugs to Kylle. Then Carson
took hold of one of Kylle’s suitcases and Kylle took the other and off they
went into the MTC.
It was so much easier for me to hand
Kylle off to someone I knew rather than someone I didn’t know. Heavenly Father
knows what we need.
